My skin is dark, brown/chocolatey,
My eyes are brown and my hair spongy.
I am like melanin dripping.
I am black, bold, intelligent, hardworking and thriving,
I am gifted enough to change my world for good.
Do you know who I am?
I am proudly African.

I love my genesis.
I am proud of my initial.
Though people extrapolate us as vulnerable,
Yet, nothing pummels the greatness of the rich soil of Africa.
And nothing compares to the strength, intelligence and the brilliance of the occupants of African soil.
The topography so distinctive, eccentric and quirky.
Like the beaming rays of the early morning golden sun,
Prepossessing with warm and welcome hearts of citizens, ever ready with smiles.

Don’t look at me as vulnerable.
Oh, how I hate a pity party.
I don’t want to depend on charity.
Just open doors for me and give me the opportunity to thrive.
There is a bird inside of me that I need to set free.
Teach me discipline and character.
I need education.
I need health care.
I need electricity.
Can’t you see my needs are basic?
With these I can do extraordinary things.

I am talented, brave and gifted.
Please don’t trade my future for a temporary enjoyment.
Don’t let greed bury me while I still wander from countries to countries looking for greener pastures.-
Not just me but all my friends who no opportunity to thrive.

Though I was born so far from my origin, but my heart is home and beats with Africa,
Though I do not live in Africa, but my spirit, soul and body blows with the rhythm when Africa sings.
The blue skies always reminds me that our future is bright.
I snivel when African children whimper,
I feel empty in the stomach even though filled with food when I remember that some have nothing.
My heart sings their songs,
The scent of Africa brings me closer to the source of life.

Whenever you see me,
Always remember, I am proudly African.
Because my gifts are venerated.
I am unapologetically African,
My root is my strength.
